Attract Seekers
New Christians know other people who need to have the same experience with Jesus that they are having. An outreach-oriented baptism service is a wonderful way to attract these seekers to an event designed to share Christ in a clear and powerful way.
Like an invitation to a wedding, a formal RSVP-type invitation to a personal baptism service is culturally compelling.
Contact new Christians and carefully work with them as they prepare to invite family and friends to their baptism. Prepare an invitation list with them. Help them to think of as many people as possible to invite. Use the W.O.R.L.D. acrostic to help them build a comprehensive invitation list.
W—Workplace. The workplace provides many opportunities to build relationships with unreached people. Many in the workplace can be reached through a
celebration of baptism.
O—Organizations. The Ladies Garden Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the PTA, and for students even the high school band or football team can provide names for your baptism celebration invitation list.
R—Relatives. Many feel that it is harder to share Christ with relatives than any other group of people. Actually, though, you statistically have more evangelistic influence with relatives than with any other group of people.
L—Lonely People. This includes newcomers to the community. Add this group to your baptism celebration invitation list. It has been shown that people are more receptive to spiritual things within the first few days or weeks of moving to a new location.
D—Daily Contacts. The checkout person at the grocery store, the bank teller, the mail carrier, etc. can all be invited to your service!
