Prayer Coordinator
The Prayer Coordinator is charged with providing prayer support to all aspects of the Baptism Celebration event. Every element of the “Celebration of Baptism” event should be bathed in prayer. Following are some ways you can organize your prayer strategy.
- Plan a church-wide prayer meeting to inform members of the Baptism Celebration event. Ask members to pray about a Baptism Celebration outreach event designed to use the baptism service as an outreach to lost family members, friends, and co-workers.
- After everyone is “on board” the Prayer Coordinator should plan and execute fervent prayer in preparation for the Baptism Celebration event.
- Make sure and plan significant times of prayer during every Baptism Celebration planning meeting.
- Schedule special times of prayer in preparation for your Baptism Celebration event. Some of these times may be home prayer meetings, a special prayer service, a call to prayer and fasting on a certain date, altar prayer times during regular worship services, and preparing Sunday School teachers to lead their classes in special prayer times.
- Some churches call members to special prayer for upcoming events every morning and evening at 7:14 in recognition of II Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, which are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and heal their land.”
- On the day of your Baptism Celebration plan a time of prayer before the service with baptism candidates and their families. This is a special time for new Christians, some of whom have yet to witness the power of prayer. Pray for the service, for guests who will be in attendance, and for the baptism candidates as they begin their walk with Christ.
- In conjunction with the Pastor and Baptism Committee, plan a meeting between the baptism candidates and pastor shortly before the event as a time of prayer and final instructions.
